REC LEAGUE CHECKLIST

Follow this checklist to ensure a successful team registration.

For more information please check the Additional Info section below.

REGISTER TEAM

Log into your registration account and volunteer to coach to create your team. Once your team is created you'll have access to your team's own page and a TEAM CODE  to invite players.

MANAGE ROSTER

Invite players to join your team. Once all players are registered, coaches MUST email the full roster in alphabetical order to our Registrar at info@brooksidesoccer.org to ensure we can find and assign players prior to making rosters final.

You will receive an email inviting you to download and use MOJO, our recommended app for team management. MOJO provides easy scheduling and communication, world-class coaching know-how to plan effective practices and more, at no cost to you or your players.

MANDATORY

REQUIREMENTS

All Recreational League coaches and assistant coaches MUST successfully complete a Background Check every calendar year, AND a SafeSport Training every two years. (Please forward your SafeSport certificate upon completion to info@brooksidesoccer.org)

If you have any questions or special circumstances about the background check, please contact Nick Garcia 913-787-1536 before submitting the request.

PRACTICE FIELD REQUEST

Swope Soccer Village is available for practice to coaches and their registered teams in a given season, and only for the approved field and time. Click in the link to request your spot.

SCHEDULE CONFLICTS

Requests must be submitted by the team's coach. Please click on the Email Request button and answer the questions in the email body.

Block out day/time requests should be submitted at least 7 days prior to the close of player registration.

Mid-Season game schedule change requests must be made at least 7 days prior to the original game to be considered. Mid-season schedule accommodations are extremely difficult due to field availability and are not guaranteed.

UNIFORMS

Teams will receive a complete uniform kit each fall, to be used for both the Fall and following Spring seasons. The uniforms will be available for pick-up on weeknights after the Fall Coaches' Meeting or on the morning of the first game. You can find them at Sporting Brookside's storage area at Swope Soccer Village.

If your team needs different sizes from what was initially provided or if there are new players joining for the Spring Season, please fill out the Uniform Exchange Form using the link provided and email it to uniforms@brooksidesoccer.org.

Please review our Code of Conduct & Rules, as well as our Side Line Rules (found at the Additional Info section below) and the Referee Game Reminder document.

Registration

TabImage

There are 2 ways for parents to volunteer as head coach — while registering a player OR through the Volunteer listing module.

Volunteer Listing Module:

In your account, click VOLUNTEER (if your child is registered, you will see the option to volunteer for that child).

Otherwise, click FIND VOLUNTEER ROLES.

- Click SHOW MORE. Click SELECT next to the program for which you wish to volunteer and VIEW AVAILABLE POSITIONS.

- Select the division and select yourself to be the Head Coach.

- Enter your remaining information. This is where you will enter your Team Name.

- Assistant coaches may only serve if they are assigned to a team. The head coach MUST invite assistants prior to the close of that program’s registration.

To Invite Players or an Assistant Coach:

Go to your account and click VOLUNTEERS on the left and select VOLUNTEER ROLE.

Visit Team Page

Roster

Manage Roster Invites

From here, you can invite players to your team by entering their email address. This page also tells you how many players have joined your team and what the minimum and maximum players per team are. PLUS, the TEAM CODE is on this page. You can pass this code out to anyone you would like to join your team. When you enter emails on this page, each email will already include the team code.

If a player registers without a team code, they will do so as a Free Agent and will be placed manually later.

If you need to ensure certain players are allocated to your team, please send an email to our master registrar, Kalena Aguirre, at Info@BrooksideSoccer.org

Background Check

TabImage

Coaches are required to complete the background check screening process EACH CALENDAR YEAR and obtain approval from Sporting Brookside. All coaches MUST carry proper government issued photo ID to every game so field monitors can verify they are on the coach approval list.

Parents who help at practices in the presence of an approved head coach or assistant do not need to complete a background approval. However, any parent acting as coach at a Sporting Brookside practice or game, without the head coach or assistant coach present, must complete and receive the background check approval prior to leading a Sporting Brookside team event.

TO REQUEST A BACKGROUND CHECK:

Click on the link in the Mandatory Requirements section of the Rec League Checklist above.

1. Complete online form. The background check process is online, transmitted instantly, safely and securely to our background check vendor. The online form only takes a few minutes, and you only need your full name, addresses, social security and birthdate.

Complete all fields.

Use your legal name and information, and add any maiden or previous names to the additional names section.

Review your answers for accuracy and spelling.

If you have any questions or special circumstances, you should contact Nick Garcia (913) 787-1536 before submitting the request.

2. Sporting Brookside Coach Approval List. All approved coaches will be placed on the Sporting Brookside Coach Approval List.

3. All coaches are required to carry a government issued photo ID to verify their identity and background check. Strikes will be issued based to any coach not able to show proof of their identity or background check, and may disqualify you from coaching with Sporting Brookside.

Strike 1: Verbal warning to immediately resolve: either show photo ID or complete background check.

Strike 2: Coach will be asked to leave the field of play and will be unable to coach until he/she completes the background process or shows proof of identification.

Strike 3: Coach is banned from coaching a team or participating in ANY Sporting Brookside event for one year.

SafeSport Training

TabImage

ALL coaches, staff and, board members are mandated to complete the SafeSport protocol.

This is mandated by SAY Soccer and the US Soccer Foundation, our national governing organizations, for all adults required to interact with minors. The course includes training on sexual misconduct awareness, emotional and physical misconduct awareness, and mandatory reporting.

Coaches are required to complete the online SafeSport training PRIOR to any practice or game.

This online training course will take approximately 60-75 min to complete. Upon completion, you will receive a certificate to verify course attendance and completion. This course is at no cost to Sporting Brookside Coaches, Staff or Board Members. You MUST complete the process, no exceptions! Training will be required every two years.

Upon SafeSport training completion, forward your certificate to Kalena Aguirre with Sporting Brookside at info@brooksidesoccer.org. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email or call Kalena or Nick Garcia.

Thank you for your participation to keep our kids safe.

Schedule

TabImage

Sporting Brookside will attempt to accommodate schedule requests/conflicts for valid reason and within timeframes but these changes are not guaranteed. We highly encourage coaches to plan ahead and submit block out day requests in advance, as mid-season schedule accommodations are extremely difficult due to field availability.

TO MAKE A REQUEST:

Click on the link in the Rec League Checklist above (Schedule Conflicts section) and complete the form to submit a request. To be considered, all requests MUST be submitted by the coach.

BLOCK OUT DAY / TIME:

Request should be submitted 7 days prior to the close of player registration. Coaches may submit up to 3 days/times per season. All attempts will be made to honor these requests.

MID-SEASON SCHEDULE CHANGE

All mid-season game schedule change requests must be made at least 7 days prior to the original game to be considered.

A valid reason must be provided for a conflict / schedule change request. Rescheduling games mid-season causes issues/concerns for players, coaches, families and the league. Valid reasons would include conflicts with coach or team availability such as coach or team out of town, school scheduling conflicts, tournament conflicts, shortage of players due to ACT tests, etc.

All other requests outside the above guidelines may be required to forfeit or cancel.

Uniforms

TabImage

Complete uniform kits for recreational teams are distributed after the Recreational Coaches’ Meeting, prior to the start of each fall season. Teams will use those uniforms for both the fall season and the following spring season. If coaches do not attend the meeting, uniforms will be available week-nights to pick up at the Sporting Brookside storage area at Swope Soccer Village or the morning of the  first game. Uniforms will not be available at other locations, nor during weekday hours. Only coaches may pick uniforms for teams; do not send parents to pick up uniforms.

Send uniform order form below to Uniforms@BrooksideSoccer.org. The form should be used for teams needing a different size from what’s in the kit they already received, or for players who might join the team for the spring season. We ask that any new unused uniforms be returned to us to help keep those costs down.

If replacement uniforms are needed for any reason for a player who participated in the most recent fall season (i.e. outgrown, lost/stolen, etc.) that player must pay $20 per jersey, $5 for short and $15 for Pre-K/Kindergarten soccer balls.

Sideline Rules

TabImage

- The Coaches & Players Only area during Sporting Brookside games is for just that — for head and assistant coaches and team members only. All other parents, siblings and excess coaches are to sit on the spectator side of the field.

- Volunteer coaches who are on the sidelines or actively participate in practices are required to complete a background check.

- There is a 2-coach-per-sideline rule. ONLY the allocated head coach and one assistant coach should be on the sidelines during games. Siblings, relatives and anyone other than background-checked coaches and registered players should be in the sideline/spectator area. Please remind your parents of this rule and the reasons for implementing it:

1. Referees can better understand which coach to interact with.

2. Lessens crowding of the sidelines.

3. It’s most beneficial to players to have fewer voices to focus on the sidelines.

4. Helps Sporting Brookside better monitor approved coaches.
